Pastor vs. Cult Leader: A Story About the Jonesboro Church War

Image
Joe Jeffers     When people hear about Jonesboro, Arkansas some know it because of an event called the Jonesboro church wars. This story’s information is mainly sourced through an interview I had with Melinda Emerson, who knew former members of Joe Jeffers’ church. It all started in the 1930s when evangelist Joe Jeffers, came and preached the gospel in a Bible College where Jonesboro High School now sits. Ten thousand people would gather because he would publicly reveal people’s sins to lead them to salvation. First Baptist Church was impressed with Jeffers, and gave him a position as Pastor. However, Joe Jeffers temporarily left after immediate criticism by members. Later he asked First Baptist if he could come back to Jonesboro and they refused. So he returned anyways and hosted a sermon near the Bible College. 171 members left First Baptist. According to Melinda Emerson, her friends were drawn to him because they “never heard the gospel spoke

That Time When a Florida Man Broke Into a Store While Wearing a Tutu

As average internet users probably know, some of the craziest crimes committed often happen in Florida. It’s become so common that there are even memes about the various cases that occur in the state.  This story in particular is in my opinion the funniest crime a Florida criminal has ever committed. It took place in a farmer’s market in Tampa Bay Florida, during it’s closing hours. Around 1 a.m., two men shattered the business office’s glass door. In the security footage you can see one of the men entering the store with only a tutu on, while the other wore an owl hoodie. The weird part is, their purpose was not to steal money like a typical store burglar would. All the men did while in the market was eat fruit and drink soda. Shortly after, they left the store. The man in the tutu was later identified as a 22 year old man named Jevon Ryner Jamison. He was then arrested and charged for criminal mischief, theft, and burglary. As for his accomplice, it was never publicly announce

The Alleged Chinese Spy Balloon that went Viral

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/02/09/china-spy-balloon-sought-us-communications-state-department/11219163002/      I have an unhealthy obsession with this alleged Chinese spy balloon. I know it’s already been obliterated, but at the same time the story in itself is somewhat hilarious. For those of you who don’t know, a balloon from China was spotted in the United States, in the state of Montana. China claims that it was a special balloon used for meteorology that just “flew off course”. With tensions growing between the two countries, American citizens were skeptical and they begged the government to destroy this balloon. Initially the military and the president advocated against it. Their reasons being, that the leftover debris would harm the environment and monitoring the balloon in case the Chinese government was telling the truth. For almost a week this balloon soared across the U.S. until their government finally decided to shoot it down because they discov

14 year old car moderately injured while pulling into garage

I’m going to be honest for a second, my life really isn’t that exciting. On Monday through Friday I spend my time going to a school that’s 35 minutes away from my house and then once school is over drive 35 minutes back home. The only remotely interesting thing that has happened to me this week is that I made the smart decision to ruin my car while pulling into the garage.  The hilarious part is this car has been through so much worse. It’s actually been rammed by a school bus during my freshman year in college and yet no dents were made at that time, only scratches. It’s even survived falling off a round about when hydroplaning. But yesterday everything changed. My mom was running out to go to an event in support of a friend. I still needed to park my car into the garage or I would be blocking her way out. She was in a hurry so I pulled in a little too close to the garage door frame. I saw my mirror was up against it and I thought “Ehhh it’s done this before, my mirror can fold, I’ll
